Welcome to College
This year in 6th grade we will be earning a College Level Degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate) by completing each of the five requirements. The higher the degree you wish to earn the more work you will have to do. At the end of the year you will be attending your graduation where you will receive your diploma. Most the work will be done at school, so this should not be something that adds a lot of extra homework.
The college of knowledge has five parts
1. Reading novels: Students are encouraged to read 150 mins a week and track these mins on the program Road To Success. To earn the different degrees, students should record the novels they have read this year. (only 1 graphic novel can count)
2. Passing off Khan Academy: Each student has a Khan Academy Account that they are to use throughout the year. Under this account there is a 6th grade math section. This is a graded assignment as well as a way to earn degrees. The math teacher, Mrs. Wagstaff, is requiring all math students to get 95% mastery for her math class. Make sure you are doing a little at a time throughout the year. This will help with end of year testing as well as day to day math assignments.
3. Science credits: You will need to complete a few science credits put together by Ms. Lehnardt
4. Creative credits: Each month you will have a project to work on that is based on the 6th grade core. The first week of the month you will be given a list of approved activities. Most of these will need to be done at home but they are fun and interesting and shouldn’t take too long
5. Things You Should Know Challenges (TYSK): you will need to prove you are ready for college by passing off Things You Should Know Challenges. These are facts, poems, and other things that students should know and have memorized so they can be passed off from the top of their head. Certain Fridays there will be time to pass these challenges off during class so use the week to get them ready and start early.
All of this information will be posted on the website found on Mr. Stock’s website, either under the College of Knowledge tab or by clicking the college bound icon under the technology sites page.
Good Luck and we look forward to helping you and watching you grow on your College of Knowledge Journey.
